Margaret Sheehy, Director

MSL Director, Margaret Sheehy, is accomplished as a producer and creative thinker with a track record of successful delivery of multi-stranded projects. She has a Doctorate from the University of Kent in Drama.

In a 40-year career, Margaret has founded two theatre companies, is credited with over 30 productions as a writer/director, has worked as a producer in both the West End and subsidised arts, and a festival director for small and large-scale festivals and events, including the Royal Opening of the Glasgow Garden Festival and a year-long London Millennium Festival.

She has held senior management roles in local government as well as cultural sector strategic bodies (Arts Council, the Museums Libraries and Archives Council) setting up and managing complex new projects (England’s Past for Everyone, the Arts Council’s Diversity Unit and Creative Partnerships), and developed or implemented major capital projects. She has been a Visiting Lecturer in theatre, film and cultural policy in various UK universities and colleges.

Currently on the board of Greenwich & Docklands International Festival and formerly Chair of The Audience Agency, the audience development agency for England, Margaret has over twenty years’ experience of governance with multiple public and voluntary sector agencies.

Margaret founded MSL in 2005 and since 2011 in Hastings has created or presented over 20 productions from large-scale outdoor performance, visual art installations, learning programmes to digital (AR and VR), some in collaboration with other local, regional or national creative partners.
